How to do paper mache bowl. Use just 3/4 cup of wet toilet paper instead of the 1 1/4 cup the original recipe calls for. Then cover the top half of the balloon. Once the border of the paper mache bowl is completely dry, prepare a thick batch of acrylic paint.
First find a shallow bowl and a tapered flower pot as molds for the top and bottom parts of a pedestal bowl, and some plastic wrap to line the inside or outside of the molds. Place one layer of newspaper onto the balloon, then glue over the top of that. Then when you pull it out, run it through your fingers to remove most of the excess paste mixture on the paper.
Paint the inside and outside of your bowl. Keep doing this until you have several layers of newspaper covering the entire bowl. After one layer is applied, let it dry completely.

If there are spots like this where edges of the paper has not stuck down, you can brush a little more mod podge onto the bowl to ‘glue’ it down. The white paint is applied as the base coat, allow it to dry. Allow to dry (image 2).
You can do this by using a pants hanger to clip the tie and hang in a location where the balloon won’t touch anything. Mix your paper mache powder with water in a bucket. Stir thoroughly until the glue and water are mixed together.
This will help that first layer of napkin adhere to the bowl easily. Be aware of drips, so place newspaper under (but not touching) the balloon. Make sure that you overlap the layers going in different directions.
Not to worry, push the paper mache back down on the bowl mold and add another layer or two of the paper mache. Pull out your 1″ strips of newspaper and dip each one in the paper mache paste. This will make it much easier to take our paper mache bowl off the mold later, and avoid damaging the bowl in.
The first layer of napkin you put down will actually make up the outside of the bowl. At this point i like to put a rough coat of acrylic paint on my bowl, since this will. Apply the strip over your bowl and smooth it down with your fingers.
To make a glue paste, simply pour some white glue or wood glue into a mixing bowl and dilute with just enough water so the glue gets a bit less sticky and can soak more easily into the paper. Leave for about a day to completely dry and cure (image 4). Trim the uneven edges around the top of the bowls (image 1).
Completely cover your form with a layer of the saturated newspaper strips. The pattern on the first layer of napkin should be facing out. Push the paper mache down on the sides slightly so that the top of your bowl has a nice finished edge.;

Let your paper mache art dry. Apply a coat of white acrylic paint both on the inner and outer surface of the paper mache bowl. Do not add any water to the paint.
